Yes, chiropractic care may help manage some of the symptoms associated with a herniated disc, depending on the location and severity of the herniation.
A herniated disc can occur in the cervical (neck) or lumbar (lower back) spine. If the herniated disc irritates or compresses a nearby nerve root, it may cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that travels into an arm or leg. This is commonly referred to as radicular pain.
At Atlantic Health & Chiropractic, treatment is based on each patient's examination and symptoms. For appropriate patients, we may use cervical or lumbar spinal decompression as part of a conservative treatment plan designed to reduce pain and improve function. Chiropractic care and therapeutic exercises may also be incorporated depending on the patient's condition.
Supportive therapies, such as therapeutic laser, may also be used to help manage pain and inflammation in the surrounding tissues.
Because every disc herniation is different, we first evaluate the patient's symptoms and examination findings to determine whether conservative chiropractic care is appropriate or whether further medical evaluation is needed.
